Fountain Resonances was written for Cory Kasprzyk, who is featured in the recording with string players from the Peabody Institute. The work is a concentrated exploration of one unusual style of playing the saxophone, the spectral gargle. Cory blows water up into the mouthpiece of his instrument the entire time creating a pitched texture of pops, plops, and overtones. The string parts feature many of the extended techniques that have become common in modern composition. The optional computer part, heard in this recording, creates strange harmonies with the saxophone's sound.

Ellipses was inspired by early Japanese role playing video game sound tracks and the music of Ethiopia. It is a blending of consonance and dissonance in a complexly procedural rhythmic framework. Despite the technicalities of construction, the works sounds playful, organic, and light, with subtle rewards for those who are willing to listen more deeply.

These two works are the beginning of a new series of solo saxophone works. They were originally written to be played unaccompanied. Burt has devised special computer processing that can optionally be implemented to provide an accompaniment to the performance created out of the sound of the saxophone.
